Subject: Accommodation for health related housing needs
I am a housing co-ordinator advising health & social care professionals on housing issues related to health. One such issue is delayed hospital discharge: where a person may be medically fit, but for whatever reason cannot return home, or their previous home is no longer suitable for their needs
I became aware of Carylls Country House (trading as Fastlet.com) when seeking temporary accommodation for a hospital patient recently assessed for a wheel-chair, so could not access his home. Carylls offered an apartment on the ground floor, with ramps in place to facilitate wheelchair access from the car park, with ramps to the apartment itself. The bathroom was already adapted as a wet room suitable for wheelchair access, and a key safe was already in place, so care provision could start immediately without delay. This accommodation provided a comfortable temporary ‘home from home’ while this gentleman was waiting for the opportunity of permanent moving-on accommodation.
In subsequent referrals, where aids or individual adaptations have been required, Carylls have provided a responsible person on-site to receive delivery of equipment and/or to provide access for adaptations. Carylls have supported the process to make a person-centred transition from hospital to a ‘home-like environment’ as easy as possible,
The setting at Carylls is the open space of a 5-acre garden, with a large carpark suitable for visitors and carers. There is plenty of space for the access of ambulances or disability vehicles for wheel-chair users.
I can’t comment on the finances or charges, so would suggest anyone needing housing services to contact Michael at Carylls direct on 01293-851247 Email: apartments@fastlet.com I would recommend a tour of Carylls Country House and for you to carry out your own assessment of the facilities.
